The Jin Long Zhai restaurant at 8 Wenming Road is one of a chain of outlets offering consistently good food in the Guilin area.
The Service
Jin Long Zhai is noted for its cleanliness and quality service. There are plenty of well trained staff at hand to make sure that everything runs smoothly from ordering, to delivery and when spills or accidents happen.
Many of the regular customers are business people and government officials attracted by the good food and quality service which they know will impress their guests. Unfortunately, such meals can be heavy-smoking affairs and there is no segregation. You can ask to sit away from groups already smoking but should be aware that you cannot prevent other diners from lighting up.
Baby chairs are available making this suitable for families with youngsters to care for.
The Food
As said above, the food in Jin Long Zhai is of a consistently high standard. You may be disappointed with your choice but not in the look and taste of the dishes.
Since the restaurant mostly caters for the upmarket locals the food on offer is not particularly tailored to foreigners. That said, there are plenty of inoffensive dishes to suit all tastes.
Starters can be selected from a trolley. Main courses are displayed in a picture menu making ordering a very simple process.
We especially like:
- Crispy Pork with black bean
- Fatty pork with sticky rice (served in bamboo)
- Beef slices, eaten with lettuce leaves
- Shrimps (order by the jin, a unit equal to 500g)
For something a bit unusual you might try one or two of the following dishes:
- Shredded horse meat (Very spicy)
- Stuffed snails
The bill
Please note that you must have cash to settle your bill at the end of the meal; credit cards are not yet accepted.
Regular diners may be invited to get a gold card. This entitles that diner to a 10% discount on subsequent meals.
