Solitary Beauty Peak - Du Xiu

This peak stands alone amongst the grounds of the Mansion of Prince Jingjiang, now part of Guangxi Normal University. It gained its name 1500 years ago when a former governor of Guilin wrote the line:

none can surpass this solitary peak in beauty

You could climb this hill from the west side. That's probably only something you are going to do if you are in that part of town anyway, or if you have set yourself some sort of challenge.

The east side contains many inscriptions from the Qing Dynasty. One of these claims this peak as the Southern Sky-supporting Pillar. You have to wonder, with all the peaks around, quite how this one became so famous. It is not the highest, nor more beautiful than any other. Perhaps the fact that it lay in the grounds of the local Prince had more to do with the issue.
