Where is Guilin?

Guilin is located in the north-esat corner of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. Guangxi is the Province to the west of Guandong (in fact that's part of the meaning of the two names), the Province that contains Guangzhou (also known as Canton) and which borders Hong Kong.

The capital city of Guangxi is Nanning. Guangxi borders with Vietnam and also incorporates the sub-tropical island Hainan, a popular holiday destinations with domestic and foreign tourists.

Most people are happy to think of Guilin's position as about an hour's flight north (and slightly west) of Hong Kong or about three hours south (and west) of Beijing. Unless you have an extended visit to China you will find some air travel necessary given the huge size of the country.

Guilin has good transport connections with most major cities in China including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu (Sichuan Province, home of the Giant Pandas) and Kunming (gateway to the whole of Yunnan Province).
